Adult ADD/ADHD---Does anybody know anything about this? |

Many people are unaware that ADD/ADHD is also an adult disorder. Previously, the commonly held belief was that ADD/ADHD was only found in children.
Has anybody had any experience or knowledge about adult ADD/ADHD? |

i am 30 yrs old and my entire life had the hardest time keeping my attention span with someone no more than 5 minutes! I was always disorganized and couldn't finish anything I started It sucked cause I would get overwhelmed with everyday task that I would start and couldn't finish. I was put on Adderall over a yr ago and It has saved my life!!! Add is real even in adults do whatever you can to fix it.

Hello ptruitt, I do have a little bit of knowledge on the possible 'how the dysfunction came about' if you care to be open-minded and not feel
threatened by me imposing a negative regard of our 'wonderful government . . . simply the addition of a toxic substance added to our drinking water,
bottled water, tooth products both polishing, cleaning and rinsing--and even food. The toxic substance is fluoride and I have a very strong gut-feeling after
receiving my baccalaureate in traditional psychology specializing in child development, researching websites both scientific, biologic, gender-oriented and
even toxicology comparative analysis, to believe this:
http://www.youtube.com/v/_-_Li0axoPE "and for the creation of ADHD here is a tidbit linking Fluoride to Dangerous Toxic substances we should avoid . . . 19) Animal experiments show that fluoride accumulates in the brain and exposure alters mental behavior in a manner consistent with a neurotoxic agent (Mullenix 1995). Rats dosed prenatally demonstrated hyperactive behavior. Those dosed postnatally demonstrated hypoactivity (i.e. under activity or "couch potato" syndrome). More recent animal experiments have reported that fluoride can damage the brain (Wang 1997; Guan 1998; Varner 1998; Zhao 1998; Zhang 1999; Lu 2000; Shao 2000; Sun 2000; Bhatnagar 2002; Chen 2002, 2003; Long 2002; Shivarajashankara 2002a, b; Shashi 2003 and Zhai 2003) and impact learning and behavior (Paul 1998; Zhang 1999, 2001; Sun 2000; Ekambaram 2001; Bhatnagar 2002). -- taken from http://www.fluoridealert.org/50-reasons.htm " -- This last portion has me, as a non-licensed in observance of children with attention span problems, that perhaps too much decay by the poisonous toxic substance, fluoride, accumulating on the synapses between neurotransmitters slows down everything. The hyper-active part is an influx of the reverse reaction to fluoride causing a seemingly dangerous battle of enztme vs. neurotoxin, a surely difficult challenge for a child to combat no matter how good the 'war-like' skills are ! Please go to my page where I enlighten parents with children who suffer from this hopefully combatible and eventually reversible brain damage . . . http://www.enlightenment-psych.net/childrenshealth.htm |

It hurts to read these pleas of pain and suffering caused by a simple toxin placed in this country's drinking water. But since we have so many cases and I
am totally against utilizing drugs to maintain composure, I ask if any have used art, music or imagery therapy ? Can meditation slow your erratic intelligent
brain down enough to concentrate? Have you tried any meditative modalities instead of Paxil, Stratera or Adderall, any of you ? Are you resigned to drug
therapy forever meaning if you wean yourself off do you find your self better or worse and capable of coping with the outcome?

Adult ADD | ||
|
I am a 26 year old female that has struggled with ADD since 3rd grade. When my parents first discovered my ADD the teachers really had no understanding of it.
I struggled throughout my entire school period. I believe my ADD is a helpful hand in my anger issues and sometimes low points. I do not take any medication
for my ADD, I feel most of the meds raise my energy and crashes. Although, a lot of depression meds can have a secondary use for ADD. I don't want to rely
to meds, but I feel like sometimes I can't handle the problems I have. I have always had an artist mind, I love to get lost in painting, drawing, anything
I can create with my hand. I find that I have always worked best with visual elements in school. The biggest problem I have right now is my anger, it sometimes
feels like a hopeless battle.

I have been treated by Jeff Gazley at Asktheinternettherapist.com in Scottsdale and he told me to get the book titled: Healing ADD by Daniel Amen. You go
through a series of question/tests to determine what type of ADD you have, I have "Limbic" type 5 ADD. Yours is type 6 ADD "Ring of Fire"
as you describe it. The book helped me to undestand and gave some diet/supplement suggestions very close to Jeff Gazley's.
In this book it suggests Omega 3, GABA and St John's Wort for "Ring of Fire" symtoms. These all have a positive effect according to the book and I believe it! |
