As far as I know, boxers are very emotional dogs. Their facial expression says a lot about their emotions. They are very playful dogs, as far as I can tell (with my dog), very gentle with kids, no matter what age. One thing that one has to be aware of is that because of their big upperbody, they tend to suffer from problems in the hips and hind legs.

Boxers make wonderful pets and companions for young and old alike. They usually are kind, gentle and very happy dogs. However, boxers are known for their propensity for acquiring cancer, all types of cancer. They have a tendancy to die young because of cancer and they must be monitored quite closely for cancer.

Why are boxers so apt to get cancer? I haven't heard of that before and would like to know more about it. I noticed that the NetVet is going to run the next free forum. Is anyone else going to check that out. I have a number of questions I am hoping to get answered.

My boxer is going to be 6 in April. He was neutered at one and only had one descended testicle. The vet said he couldn't find the undescended one.
Now he has a growth on his underbelly that I want to have removed and my current vet states that I should be more concerned with having the undescended testicle removed. We had an Xray done and they couldn't see anything. What is more dangerous to my dog, possibly having that testicle still in his abdomen or undergoing what could be a lengthy surgery because they don't know what side to look on for the undescended testicle. What puts my dog at a greater risk? Thanks Dawn |

Unfortunately Boxers and Golden Retreivers have the highest incidence of cancer
I had two boxers until a week ago when my 5 1/2 year old Boxer Rocky died of Lymphoma-- it was only 5 weeks from diagnosis until we had to put her down. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Would I get another Boxer-- Probably-- I love them and they are great family dogs. But it will be awhile before I am up to that. ![]() |
